...Senator inspects other projects at university
The university’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr Usman Mohammad Shanawa, gave the commendation during an inspection visit by the senator to the institution.
The ICT Centre, facilitated by Salisu, is the first completed building at the university’s permanent site, coming about two years after the institution commenced operations.
The senator also inspected other ongoing and completed building projects at the permanent site during the visit.
The inspection began at the university’s temporary site located at No. 31, Central Avenue, Kemta Estate, Idi Aba, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta, before the delegation proceeded to the permanent site.
Speaking during the exercise, Shanawa thanked Salisu for supporting the institution at a critical stage of its development.
He said the completion of the ICT Centre was significant to the university, particularly as it had become the first building at its permanent site.
Shanawa said, “We sincerely appreciate Senator Salisu for his support. What we are witnessing today is significant because this ICT Centre represents the first building at our permanent site.
“We are grateful for this intervention, and we appeal for more support from the Federal Government and other well-meaning Nigerians to enable FUMMSA achieve its mandate.”
He added that the facility would contribute to digital learning, medical education, research and innovation at the university.
Education changed my life — Salisu
Speaking during the visit, Salisu said his decision to support educational and ICT projects was influenced by his personal experience.
He said education had played a major role in shaping his life and career.
Salisu said, “The only reason why I became what I am today is because I am educated. Education changed my life, and that is why I believe strongly that we must continue to invest in education, technology and opportunities for our young people.”
The senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, said the ICT Centre was part of his efforts to promote digital education and provide students and researchers with modern technological infrastructure.
He said ICT had become indispensable to education, research and development, particularly in the medical sciences.
“We are in an era where ICT is no longer optional. It is central to education, research and development. For a university that is focused on medicine and medical sciences, providing the right digital infrastructure is extremely important,” Salisu stated.
DVC commends senator
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Adebola Ogunbiyi, who spoke on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Fatiu Abiola Arogundade, also commended the senator for the intervention.
Ogunbiyi praised the governing council and management of the university for the progress recorded within the short period since its establishment.
She said Salisu’s background in computer science and technology had positioned him to appreciate the importance of ICT infrastructure to modern education.
She noted that the facility would support teaching, learning, research and innovation at FUMMSA.
The DVC assured the senator that the university would make effective use of the facility and continue to build on the foundation created by the intervention.
Salisu inspects other projects
During the visit, Salisu also inspected other building projects at the permanent site and held discussions with the university’s leadership on areas requiring further infrastructural and legislative support.
The inspection provided an opportunity for the senator and the university management to assess the level of development at the permanent site and identify areas where further intervention could assist the institution.

FUMMSA is a specialised federal institution in Ogun State established to train healthcare professionals and promote medical education, research and innovation.
The completion of the ICT Centre and development of other facilities at the permanent site mark key milestones in the university’s growth since it commenced operations.
