The Aare Mayegun of Owu Kingdom and the Convener of the Ajiboshin Platform Prince Kazeem Adeyanju Olanrewaju Bakinson has clarified speculations surrounding his purported ambition to contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat in the next general election.
Bakinson made the clarification during an interview with newsmen at Owu Club in Abeokuta over the weekend.
He stated that he is still in wide consultations and remains focused on his current responsibilities in the Lagos State Government.
Speaking against the backdrop of growing rumours on social media that he has concluded plans to run for Senate, he explained that while he is eminently qualified by constitutional provisions and capacity, he is not yet in the race and has not resigned from his present position.
He emphasized that former Governor of Ogun State Senator Ibikunle Amosun, plays a pivotal role in any political decision he will eventually make, describing him as a mentor whose blessing he must seek before taking such a major step.
“Senator Amosun is my mentor. If I decide to run for Senate in Ogun Central, he is one of the first people I must visit for consultation. I know I cannot contest against my uncle. It is either I step down for him or he steps down for me,” he said.
Aare Bakinson noted that although he meets all constitutional requirements and ranks among the most qualified individuals to represent Ogun Central, his immediate priority is service delivery to the Lagos State Government.
“In as much as I am qualified , in fact, one of the most qualified , I want to concentrate on my service to the Lagos State Government for now. I have not resigned, and my focus is to deepen the objectives of the Ajiboshin Platform,” .
He added that his decision-making process is anchored on guidance from respected figures across Owu, Abeokuta, and Nigeria at large, stressing that political ambition requires direction from credible leaders.
“I have a lot of fathers and mentors, not just in Owu, but in Abeokuta and across Nigeria. I am still consulting because I need direction from people that matters,” he said.
The Ajiboshin convener also cited his strong faith as a factor that will influence his political future, declaring that he will contest only if it aligns with divine guidance.
“As a Muslim and someone who believes in Allah’s ways, if God says I should contest, I’ll give it my all. We need good representation in the Senate , people who will make laws that attract dividends of democracy to our people.”
While reiterating that he is currently not a candidate, he reaffirmed that he is constitutionally eligible and prepared to offer quality representation should he eventually enter the race.
“By the Constitution of Nigeria, I am qualified to be a senator, and I will give better representation to the good people of Ogun Central if I choose to run,” he stated.
