In a statement issued newsmen on Sunday, Arabambi accused Obi of spreading what he described as false claims of persecution after his vehicle was reportedly clamped for violating airport parking regulations.
According to Arabambi, available findings from an internal inquiry allegedly showed that Obi’s vehicle was left unattended for about 30 minutes in a restricted area of the airport before it was clamped by officials carrying out their lawful duties.
He further alleged that Obi later secured the release of the vehicle through a telephone intervention without paying the prescribed N25,000 fine before accusing the Federal Government of targeting him.
Arabambi argued that the former Anambra State governor’s subsequent public comments, including claims that his life was under threat and that he might not live to witness the 2027 general election, were capable of creating unnecessary tension in the country.
“This is not about politics. This is about the integrity of our public discourse. This is about the danger of weaponizing victimhood to manipulate public sentiment. This is about the principle that we are all equal before the law — regardless of our status, our connections, or our political affiliations”.
He added “We cannot afford to create a culture where influence trumps accountability. We cannot afford to send a signal that public figures can manipulate the system, spread false narratives, and then play the victim”.
The LP chieftain maintained that security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), should invite Obi for questioning to determine whether any laws were violated.
“I therefore, with all sense of responsibility, call on the relevant security agencies — the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services — to invite Mr. Peter Obi for questioning. This is not a call for persecution. It is a call for due process. Let the facts be properly examined. Let the appropriate legal steps be taken, if any breach of the law is established”.
Arabambi also urged Nigerians and political leaders to avoid drawing conclusions without first establishing the facts, saying public discourse should be guided by evidence rather than emotion.
He claimed that airport officials acted professionally and deserved public respect for enforcing established regulations.
Arabambi further called on Obi to publicly apologise to airport personnel and pay the prescribed parking fine, describing it as an opportunity to demonstrate leadership and respect for public institutions.
“Mr. Peter Obi has been given a window by the Minister to publicly apologize to the airport staff and pay the fine. That is a reasonable and measured demand. I urge him to take that step in the spirit of responsibility that leadership demands. It would be a gesture of humility and a recognition that no one is above the law. It would also be an acknowledgment that his earlier statements were premature and unfounded.”
The Labour Party chieftain also criticised opposition figures who publicly supported Obi’s claims before the release of what he described as the findings of the airport investigation.
He said those who amplified the allegations without verification owed Nigerians and the affected airport workers an apology.
