The Returning Officer for the Osun governorship election, Joshua Ogunwole, who announced the results at the INEC Collation Centre in Osogbo early Sunday, said Governor Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge as the winner of the keenly contested exercise.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to emerge ahead of Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes.
The result places Adeleke ahead of the APC candidate by 66,252 votes, as voters across the 30 Local Government Areas of the state cast their ballots to determine who would govern Osun for another term.
Oyebamiji mounted a strong challenge in the election, securing victories in several local government areas. However, Adeleke’s performance across a larger number of LGAs gave him the advantage needed to retain the governorship.
