June 12: Ogun Lawmaker Tella Urges Citizens to Uphold Democratic Values

The lawmaker representing Abeokuta North State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Babatunde Tella, has called on Nigerians to remain committed to the ideals of democracy and good governance as the nation commemorates the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Hon. Tella made the call in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday describing June 12 as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

He noted that the day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and patriotic citizens who fought for the entrenchment of democratic governance in the country.

According to the lawmaker, democracy remains the most viable system of government for ensuring accountability, transparency, and inclusive development.

He urged citizens to continue supporting democratic institutions and participate actively in governance at all levels.

“June 12 symbolizes the collective struggle and resilience of Nigerians in the pursuit of justice, freedom, and democratic governance. We must continue to cherish and protect these values for the benefit of future generations,” Tella said.

The legislator further emphasized the need for unity among Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations. He stated that national development can only be achieved when citizens work together towards common goals and place the nation’s interest above personal considerations.

Tella also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and other leaders across the country for their efforts in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting policies aimed at improving the welfare of the people. He expressed optimism that Nigeria would continue to witness progress under democratic rule.

While congratulating Nigerians on Democracy Day, the lawmaker urged the people to remain law-abiding, patriotic, and hopeful for a brighter future.

“As we celebrate 27years of uninterrupted democratic governance, let us renew our commitment to nation-building and work collectively towards a more prosperous and united Nigeria,” he added.
