The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, has been named a recipient of the Distinguished Public Service Award in Grassroots Development, in recognition of his impactful leadership and contributions to community development.
The award, according to a letter from the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) under the Presidency, is part of activities lined up to commemorate the 2026 United Nations Public Service Day, a global platform that celebrates excellence, innovation, and commitment in public service delivery.
The letter, signed by the Director-General of BPSR, stated that Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo emerged through a merit-based assessment process involving stakeholder nominations and an independent review of performance indicators. The process, it noted, culminated in his selection from a highly competitive pool of local government chairmen within his geopolitical zone.
The award presentation is scheduled to hold on June 23, 2026, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, during the Nigeria Public Service Lecture Series and Awards Ceremony. The event will feature a lecture session in the morning, followed by an award dinner in the evening.
Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo’s recognition is widely seen as a testament to his commitment to grassroots governance, infrastructural development, and people-oriented policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents of Abeokuta North Local Government .
