The Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun State, Comrade Sanyaolu Abayomi, has declared that the party is fully prepared to take over power in the state ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that APM has become a major political force that cannot be ignored.
Speaking during the party’s ward congress on Saturday, Abayomi said the recent political developments within the party at the national level have further strengthened APM’s structure and readiness across the country.
According to him, “APM is ready in Ogun State. If we were not ready before, you could see the readiness last week when Governor Seyi Makinde moved to APM in Nigeria and declared his intention to contest for President. That shows clearly that APM did not come to Ogun State to play politics.”
The APM chairman expressed confidence that the party would defeat the ruling administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun in the next governorship election.
“We are taking over the government from Governor Dapo Abiodun. I am 100 percent sure about that. I don’t believe in crowd, I believe in serious work,” he said.
Abayomi assured residents of Ogun State that the party is determined to remain a strong political platform beyond the 2027 elections.
“I am assuring the good people of Ogun State that APM has come and it has come to stay. By May 2027, by the special grace of God, when they are announcing the Governor, they will be saying the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement will be sworn in as Governor of Ogun State,” he said.
He further maintained that no political party in the state would be able to match APM’s strength when electioneering activities begin fully.
“I am affirming again that APM has come to stay and it is the party to beat. No party can challenge us when the time comes,” Abayomi added.
Speaking on the state of insecurity in the country, the APM chairman criticized the Federal Government, describing its handling of security challenges as inadequate.
According to him, “The Federal Government is not capable and not competent enough in handling insecurity. Too many lives have been lost already. They should have declared a state of emergency on insecurity because we cannot continue to watch while people are being attacked.”
He lamented the growing wave of attacks in the South-West region, stressing that the situation demands urgent and decisive action from the Federal Government.
“These people have already ambushed us in the South-West and the President is from the South-West. Nobody can blame Governor Seyi Makinde because security is a federal issue. If the Federal Government cannot handle it alone, they should seek international support,” he said.
Abayomi also accused political leaders of not taking the issue seriously because top government officials and their families have not been directly affected by kidnapping incidents.
“Those kidnappers have never kidnapped any senator, House of Representatives member, House of Assembly member, governor or their children. That is why they are taking it easy. If one of their family members had been kidnapped, they would have taken stronger action,” he added.
He, however, called on the Federal Government to urgently take decisive steps to tackle insecurity and restore confidence among Nigerians.
