"Our Executive Remains Intact" — Abayomi Tella Reacts to PDP Party Leadership Dissolution

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has dismissed reports that the State Executive Committee of the party has been dissolved, insisting that the leadership structure in the state remains intact and constitutionally valid.

The clarification followed an announcement by the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee on which declared the dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee with immediate effect.

Reacting to the development, the Ogun State Chairman of the party, Abayomi Tella on Friday maintained that the executive members currently running the affairs of the party in the state were duly elected and still have a valid mandate under the party’s constitution.

According to Tella, the state executives were elected on September 24, 2024, and are entitled to a four-year tenure as stipulated in the party’s constitution, stressing that the current leadership has barely spent a year in office.

His words “The present executive members of the PDP in Ogun State were elected on September 24, 2024. By virtue of the party constitution, particularly Section 47, Subsection 1, there is a four-year tenure, out of which we have only used one year and a few months.”

Tella also argued that no constitutional infraction has been committed that could warrant the dissolution of the executive committee.

“If you also look at Section 58, Subsection 1, paragraphs A to N, which stipulate a number of infractions that could be committed before any punishment can be meted out, nothing like that has happened in the PDP in this state.”

Tella explained that the state chapter has remained peaceful and united despite the ongoing political activities across the country.

According to him “We have been very peaceful. However, this is a period of politics and all sorts of things are bound to happen. But to our teaming members in Ogun State, we want to assure you that nothing has happened.

The PDP leadership also reassured members and supporters that the party remains strong in the state and is preparing to participate actively in future elections.

“We will participate in the election in 2027. We will be on the ballot and we will win the election”.
While appreciating the efforts of the national leadership in reconciling aggrieved members across the country, the Ogun PDP called on party faithful to remain calm, united and law-abiding.

“At this point in time, it is important that all of us, without exception, should be ready to make sacrifices. This is necessary if we truly love Nigeria and want the country to move forward”.

The Chairman, therefore, urged members not to be distracted by political rumors and speculations, assuring that the party structure in the state remains stable.
