The Rector of D.S. Adegbenro Polytechnic, Ogun State, Prof. Goke Rauf, has urged members of the 2016 Mass Communication class of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) to strengthen their bonds, build meaningful networks and support one another in their professional and personal endeavours.
Prof. Rauf, who was one of the lecturers who taught the 2016 Mass Communication class during their time at MAPOLY, gave the charge while speaking at the class’s 10th anniversary celebration held in Abeokuta, the state capital.
He urged graduates who had attained greater heights not to look down on their colleagues, but to use their positions and networks to create opportunities and make meaningful impact among members of the class.
Prof. Rauf stressed that every member had a role to play in the collective success of the group, noting that no matter how wealthy or successful an individual became, there would always be a need for classmates and professional relationships.
Also speaking at the event, the Special Guest of Honour and Co-Speaker, Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso, challenged the graduates to build strong personal brands and position themselves for greater relevance in the digital and global economy.
Dr. Tejuoso, who also served as a lecturer to the class, now Head of Department spoke on the anniversary theme, “Naija Hustle to Global Spotlight: Celebrating Excellence,” with a presentation titled “From Classroom to Global Stage: Transforming the Nigerian Hustle into Media Excellence and Global Impact.”
He urged members to see themselves as brands, add value to their skills and deliberately build credible digital identities, stressing that the next stage of their journey should be about moving from participation to leadership.
Also speaking, the Olu of Lisa Kingdom, Oba Nojeedeen Oladele Ayinla Odugbemi Ali-Odu I who spoke through the Asipa of Lisa Town, High Chief Samson Adeniji commended the organisers for bringing members of the 2016 Mass Communication class together to celebrate a decade of friendship, growth and achievements.
Chief Adeniji, described the anniversary as an important occasion for reflection and renewal, urging the graduates to sustain the bond established during their time at MAPOLY and continue to support one another in their various endeavours.
The event also featured a presentation by the President of the Association of Mass Communication (AMACOS), 2015/16 set, Comrade Erinosho Michael, titled “Digital Footprints: Securing Our Story in the Digital Age.”
Erinosho advised participants to be intentional about their online activities, warning that careless management of digital identities could expose individuals to fraud, identity theft, social engineering and cyber attacks.
A real estate and property expert and member of the class, Adekunle Adewunmi, also spoke on wealth creation through real estate, urging members to explore land banking and cash-flow-generating assets while conducting proper due diligence before investing.
In their separate remarks, the Association President, Dhelimah Oladele Taiwo, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Adams Abass, urged members of the 2016 set to use the anniversary to foster unity, strengthen their bond and present a united front towards the continued growth and development of the association.
The event also honoured the Olu of Lisa Kingdom, Oba Nojeedeen Oladele Ayinla Odugbemi Ali-Odu I, with an Award of Recognition, Prof. Goke Rauf was honoured as the Most Supportive/Fatherly Lecturer, while Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso received the award for Most Outstanding Lecturer for their contributions and achievements.
Other awardees, recognised under the COSA categories, included Chief Salam Abiola Tzamani Telecoms as COSA Brand Personality of the Year (Male Category); Alani, Oladele Taiwo of Dhelimah Educational Consultant as COSA Most Dedicated Personality of the Year; and Abass Olamilekan Adams as COSA Most Influential Personality of the Year (Male Category).
Also honoured were Mr and Mrs Emmanuel Ayomikuseyin as COSA Couple of the Year, Comrade Michael Kayode Erinosho as COSA Most Friendly Personality of the Year (Male Category), AFRICANO_ARTISTRY as COSA Most Creative/Influential Brand of the Year, and FORTQUEEN SERVICES for Excellence in Service in Hospitality Management.
The celebration was enlivened by musical performances from Seye, popularly known as Difftunz, and DJ Eroosa, adding entertainment to the reunion.
