He described himself as “the happiest man on earth” as his people gathered to celebrate him.
Speaking during the celebration, on Tuesday in Orile imo in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State ,High Chief Joseph expressed gratitude to God for the grace to give back to society.
He disclosed that as part of his empowerment programme, artisans and widows received cash support of ₦200,000 each, while sewing machines were donated to fashion designers and hairdressing equipment to hair stylists.
“I am very happy today when I see my people come together to celebrate me , the entire Imo traditional council, my family, my friends. God has assisted me, and I just want to give the little I have back to my people,” he said.
Explaining on his investment in housing, the Asiwaju revealed that he had constructed an estate and lock-up shops in Bara Community in Orile Imo .
According to him, while the estate remains his personal property, the lock-up shops will be handed over to the local government and community for affordable use.
While commissioning the lock-up shops, Hon. Soneye Damilola Kayode, the member representing Obafemi Owode State Constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, commended the initiative, describing it as a laudable project that complements government efforts.
“With all this empowerment and investment, Chief Joseph is really complementing government’s efforts in improving the welfare of our people.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun has already made huge strides in addressing housing deficits in the state, with projects such as the Kobape King’s Court Estate and many more. What Asiwaju has done in Bara aligns with this vision,” he said.
Also speaking, the Lisa of Imo, High Chief Olajide Otesile, lauded the gesture and dismissed rumours of suspension involving the celebrant.
“I have known Asiwaju for over 40 years. On the issue of suspension, I have never heard of such, and as far as the Imo Traditional Council is concerned, nothing like that exists.
“For other philanthropists, I urge them to emulate this by giving back to their communities,” he stated.
Also, the Youth leader of the community, Chief Jimoh Olorunsogo described High Chief Joseph as a man of the people, loved by both the young and old.
He noted that many beneficiaries could not have afforded work tools like sewing machines on their own, urging them to use the equipment judiciously.
