Following the increase in the dollar exchange rate, which significantly impacted the financial obligations of prospective pilgrims, Alhaji Apelogun personally provided a sum of ₦5,000 differential each to 675 pilgrims, totaling ₦3,375,000. This timely intervention ensured that every pilgrim was able to meet the $500 requirement for their journey to the Holy Land.
The gesture, widely lauded as unprecedented, has been hailed as a powerful demonstration of Islamic brotherhood, selflessness, and leadership in action.
At a time when many families were struggling to cover the foreign exchange differential, Alhaji Apelogun’s initiative brought significant relief and reaffirmed his deep commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community in Ogun State.
The Amirul Hajj while addressing newsmen appreciated the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his unwavering support to the Muslim community in the state.
He noted that the Governor contributions and encouragement have played a vital role in ensuring the smooth preparation and participation of Ogun pilgrims in this year’s Hajj exercise.
According to him, the Governor’s commitment to the spiritual welfare of Muslims in the state is both commendable and deeply appreciated.
Amirul Hajj praised Governor Abiodun for his inclusive leadership style and for providing necessary support to the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.
He said such gestures are strong indicators of the administration’s respect for religious harmony and freedom.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr. Taiwo Ajibola appreciated the Amirul Hajj for the gesture.
“This is the first time in the history of Hajj operations in Ogun State that such a kind and personal intervention has been made to cover the cost differential for intending pilgrims,” he said. “It has lightened the financial burden on our pilgrims and strengthened the unity within our community.”
