Issa, who resides on Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, was arrested by operatives of the Mowe Division during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted along the Mowe axis of the expressway.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babasuyi, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on September 11, 2026, when the police operatives flagged down the vehicle for a security check.
The PPRO said the three occupants of the vehicle suddenly abandoned it and fled in different directions upon sighting the police, raising the suspicion of the operatives.
He explained that the officers immediately gave chase, leading to the arrest of Issa, while the Toyota Camry was secured and recovered from the scene.
Babasuyi said preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen on September 7, 2026, from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.
He added that efforts were ongoing to locate the owner of the vehicle and apprehend the two fleeing accomplices, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response, stressing that the Command would sustain proactive policing and operations aimed at tackling vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the state.

It also advised vehicle owners to adopt basic security measures, including the use of tyre locks, steering locks and other anti-theft devices, particularly when parking in public or unsecured locations.
