Speaking during the presentation of cash grant on Tuesday at the ward meeting , Adeosun said the initiative was inspired by his desire to appreciate the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment.
He explained that the cash grant was funded from half of his monthly salary, noting that the gesture was his own way of giving back to the people.
According to him, “I made this cash support grant in honour of my boss, the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo, because without him I might have been incapacitated from doing this. The salary he pays me is what I have decided to use to give back to the people of my ward.”
Adeosun also expressed profound appreciation to his political leader, Hon. Wale Bello, for his unwavering guidance and encouragement.
He said Hon. Bello has consistently reminded him of the promises he made to the people during his campaign for the councillorship position.
“I want to appreciate my political leader, Hon. Wale Bello, who always reminds me to give back to my people as I promised when I was contesting for councillor. During my campaign, I pledged that if I was privileged to serve or hold public office, I would set aside part of my salary to support the people of my ward. Today’s cash grant is a fulfilment of that promise, and by God’s grace, it will not be the last,” Adeosun said.
Adeosun, who is also the General Manager of OGO Multipurpose Ventures in the local government , stated that the beneficiaries were carefully selected through leaders in Ward 9 to ensure fairness and transparency.
He stressed that the intervention was not intended to cover everyone at once but would continue in phases as resources permit.
“This is just half of my salary. I know it cannot go round at once, but this kind of support is a gradual process. Those who are not beneficiaries today will definitely have the opportunity to benefit next time,” he assured.
The SSA further explained that the cash support was specifically targeted at residents engaged in small and medium-scale businesses in Ward 9, with the aim of helping them expand their businesses and improve their means of livelihood amid prevailing economic challenges.
Also speaking, former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government, Mr. Sobayo Adesina Akeem, commended the initiative, describing Adeosun as a committed and dependable young leader whose humility and dedication to community service have continued to distinguish him.
“I am highly delighted. I know Hon. Azeez Adeosun is a performing young man. I have a lot of trust in him because he is a very humble person.
“We have always enlightened our ward members that whenever anyone comes to support the ward, not everyone can benefit at the same time. I am confident that another set of people will benefit during the next intervention.”
He also called on other political office holders and appointees to emulate Adeosun’s example by initiating programmes that directly impact the lives of people at the grassroots.
According to him, giving back to the community remains one of the best ways to justify the confidence reposed in public office holders.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Mariam Babatunde, expressed gratitude to Adeosun for what she described as a timely intervention.
She said the cash support would go a long way in strengthening her business and helping her meet pressing financial needs.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Adeyemi Oluwole, also appreciated the gesture, describing it as evidence that responsive leadership begins with remembering the people at the grassroots.
He urged other public office holders to emulate the initiative by investing in programmes that directly improve the welfare of their people.
