Senator Adeola secured a massive 304,055 votes to defeat fellow aspirant, Mr. Abayomi Hunye, who polled zero votes in the exercise conducted across the state.
It would be recalled that Hunye had earlier insisted on participating in the primary despite the adoption of Adeola as the party’s consensus candidate by majority of APC stakeholders, leaders, and Governor Dapo Abiodun.
While announcing the results at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee, Mr. Wale Ohu, disclosed that the party had 343,292 registered voters, while 305,287 members were accredited for the exercise.
According to him, “There were two contestants. Senator Solomon Adeola scored 304,055 votes while Mr. Abayomi Hunye polled zero votes.
“With these results, I hereby declare Senator Solomon Adeola as the winner of the contest and the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Ogun State."
In his acceptance speech, Adeola pledged to consolidate on the achievements of Governor Dapo Abiodun and maintain peace and unity within the APC.
The senator commended the governor for ensuring a peaceful and seamless primary election process, describing the exercise as unprecedented in the political history of Ogun State.
“I never imagined the exercise would be this peaceful. By the grace of God, on May 29, 2027, we will witness a smooth transition of government,” Adeola said.
Governor Abiodun, in his remarks, described Adeola’s emergence as a reflection of the confidence party members across the state have in his leadership capacity.
The governor added that the peaceful conduct of the primary marked a historic moment in Ogun State politics, noting that such a smooth exercise was unprecedented in the state’s over 50-year history.
