Abeokuta North Aspirant Ishola Steps Down, Endorses Babatunde Tella for 2027 Assembly Race

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, HC Olalekan Ishola (TJ), has officially withdrawn his aspiration to contest for the Ogun State House of Assembly seat representing Abeokuta North State Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing party consensus and unity as the basis for his decision.

In a statement released on Monday, Ishola expressed gratitude to supporters, members of the Irorun Movement Team, and residents of the constituency, noting that their encouragement and dedication since the beginning of his political journey had been “truly inspiring.”

He also acknowledged the support of key leaders, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the APC consensus governorship candidate Olamilekan Adeola, and other party stakeholders who he said provided guidance throughout his consultations.

“I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude for your unwavering belief in our vision. Your consistency, energy, and steadfastness since we began this journey toward the 2027 Ogun State House of Assembly seat have been truly inspiring,” Ishola stated.

According to him, the decision to step down followed extensive consultations and respect for internal party arrangements. He emphasized that party unity and loyalty must remain paramount for every progressive member.

“After extensive consultations, several meetings, and careful reflection with party leadership and key stakeholders, particularly giving due respect to the internal party consensus arrangement and the directives of our leadership, I have decided to officially step-down my aspiration from the race”.

Ishola subsequently announced his full endorsement of Hon. Dr. Tunde Tella as the party’s consensus candidate for the constituency seat, pledging to work with party leadership to secure victory in the 2027 elections.

“In the spirit of cooperation and for the continued progress of our great party, I hereby declare my full endorsement of our consensus candidate, Hon Dr. Tunde Tella (PhD). Success is a team effort, and I am fully committed to working alongside the party leadership at all levels”.

Despite stepping down from the race, Ishola reassured constituents that his commitment to grassroots development remains unchanged, promising continued support for the growth of Ogun State and his constituency.

“My role in this specific race has changed, my devotion to my constituency remains firm. I promise to continue supporting the development of Abeokuta North State Constituency and Ogun State at large”.
