Dr Adeniyi Fasanu and Dr Akinluyi, the Chairman and Secretary of the Caucus respectively, in a jointly signed statement on Tuesday in Osogbo, said the association supported NARD’s position for declaring strike.
The statement expressed displeased about the outcome of the emergency delegates meeting called by the national body of NMA concerning the development.
“We condemned the silence of the National Officers Committee (NOC) about the progress of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBS) meeting.
“It was observed that the NMA negotiations with the Federal Government and the Ministry of Health have not met the expectations of members.
“The Federal Government’s attention was not drawn to the deplorable working conditions and poor remuneration of Nigerian doctors in the country, which is sub-optimal,” the statement reads.
It urged the Federal Government to show more commitment to the deplorable condition of the Nigerian health system and the poor remuneration of doctors in the country.
The statement said that NMA South-West zone was in support of the State Chairmen’s resolutions in collecting signatures of members to call for an Emergency Draft Memorandum (EDM).
It appreciated Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, for making the state doctors the highest paid in the South-West and for his commitment to the welfare of health workers across the state.
The statement also thanked Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for heeding to the demands of members and for ensuring industrial harmony at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital.
