The commencement of commercial flight operations at the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State has drawn commendations from Hon. AbdulKabir Adekunle Akinlade, who described the milestone as a defining achievement in the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The inaugural flights, operated by ValueJet, took off on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, marking the formal opening of air transport services to and from the state.

In a congratulatory message, Akinlade lauded the governor for his visionary leadership and commitment to infrastructural development, noting that the airport’s operationalization would strengthen Ogun’s position as a commercial hub. He said the project reflects Abiodun’s dedication to projects that will enhance the state’s economic growth and connectivity.

“This landmark achievement defines your legacy as a visionary leader and achiever,” Akinlade stated, adding that the airport’s activation is a significant stride toward making Ogun a viable destination for investment and tourism.

The Gateway International Airport, located along the Iperu–Ilishan axis, is expected to serve as a major aviation and logistics center for southwestern Nigeria. With ValueJet leading initial operations, the facility is anticipated to attract more airlines and businesses, opening new opportunities for trade and travel.

Stakeholders have also praised the development as a boost to Ogun State’s infrastructural expansion drive. The commencement of flights not only symbolizes progress in the state’s transport sector but also reinforces confidence in Governor Abiodun’s agenda for sustainable economic transformation.
