The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced the groundbreaking of a modern Access Control Post and Perimeter Fence at its command headquarters in Abeokuta.
The event, which marked a significant step towards boosting security infrastructure and operational efficiency, attracted top government officials, traditional rulers, private sector stakeholders, and members of the press.
In his address, the State Commandant, Commandant Remi Omolade Ekundayo, described the event as a historic milestone.
She noted that the project aligns with the vision of the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, mni, OFR, to modernize the Corps and enhance its capacity to protect lives, property, and national assets.
“This project will fortify our headquarters, regulate movement, prevent unauthorized access, and protect our personnel and infrastructure,” Ekundayo stated. “It is part of a broader commitment to providing a secure environment not only for our operations but also for the public we serve.”
Commandant Ekundayo acknowledged that while some internal funds had been mobilized to kick-start the project, support from stakeholders remains crucial.
She expressed appreciation to MUSBAL Nigeria Ltd and other early donors, while calling on the Ogun State Government, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to partner in seeing the project to completion.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Together, we can build a safer Ogun State,” she added.
He also revealed that the command is addressing past challenges such as flooding around the premises and expressed optimism that the facelift would significantly improve command and control operations.
In his goodwill message, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, described the project as realistic and affordable. He encouraged the Corps to enforce the law without fear or favor.
“For those who want to support you, even if they are offended, do not hesitate to allow the law to take its full effect. That is the only way Nigeria can become better,” Elemide said.
He also commended the officers of the command for their diligence and performance in maintaining security across the state.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, AIG Olusola Zubair (rtd), affirmed that the project demonstrates the state’s commitment to operational integrity and the safety of security personnel.
“This modern access control system and perimeter fencing will not only protect the facility but also set a new standard of professionalism,” Zubair remarked. “Nonetheless, technology alone is not enough—officers must continue to demonstrate professionalism and vigilance.”
He lauded Commandant Ekundayo’s leadership and described the project as a “legacy initiative,” while also appreciating past commandants for their contributions to the growth and development of the Corps.
Meanwhile, ahead of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations, Commandant Ekundayo disclosed that no fewer than 2,555 personnel will be deployed across Ogun State to ensure peaceful festivities.
“We are committed to ensuring that residents celebrate Salah in a peaceful and secure environment,” he assured.
