The institution's rector, Arc Koye Jolaoso who disclosed this in a press conference held at the administrative building of the Polytechnic on Thursday said that the convocation will cover nine academic sessions - 2015/2016 to 2023/2024.
The rector noted that during the convocation, the institution will confer its fellowship awards on notable Nigerians, including a former governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goal, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire and Chief Owolabi Fadairo.
Jolaoso also disclosed that the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa will deliver the convocation lecture, titled: “Diaspora Perspective and The Influence of STEM In The Globalised World of Today”.
He said “This ceremony marks a significant milestone in the history of our great institution, as it will be the first convocation ceremony since the 2014/2015 academic session, covering nine academic sessions (2015/2016 to 2023/2024).
“This occasion therefore stands as a major achievement for this administration and indeed a testimony to the renewed spirit of progress within MAPOLY.
“In addition, we shall be conferring Honorary Fellowship Awards of the Polytechnic and Award of Excellence on distinguished Nigerians who have contributed immensely to the development of education, industry, and society at large. These awards are in recognition of excellence, innovation, and service to humanity,” Jolaoso added.
Speaking on the challenges bedevilling the 46-year-old institution, Jolaoso who is the first alumnus to emerge as the poly rector, flaunted his commitment to repositioning MAPOLY.
He noted his progress so far as the new rector, which include addressing backlog issues, particularly related to salaries and academic programs.
The rector also mentioned that his efforts to clear salary backlogs yielded good results, having paid off bank loans.
