Recall that the bill was sponsored by the councillor representing Ward 14 Imala /idi Emi and Chairman house committee on Finance and Appropriation. Hon. Olusola Victor, and co-sponsored by the councillors representing Wards 9, 16 , 2 , 1 and 5 .
The Bye-Law forms part of the Local Government’s ongoing efforts to promote peace, security, responsible livestock management and peaceful coexistence among farmers, herders and residents.
The new law establishes a regulatory framework for livestock grazing within the Local Government Area, including the registration of herders and herders’ settlements. It also prohibits open grazing and the carrying of weapons within communities, in accordance with the provisions of the Bye-Law.
The Chairman has directed that enforcement of the provisions of the Bye-Law shall commence on August 1, 2026. All herders, livestock owners, farmers, community leaders and residents are therefore advised to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the law and ensure full compliance.
Hon.Dr. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, the promotion of peace and security, and the maintenance of harmonious relationships among all residents of Abeokuta North Local Government.
He commended the Legislative Arm of the Local Government for its diligence and commitment in passing the Bye-Law, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening community safety and promoting responsible livestock management.
The Chairman further called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the relevant enforcement authorities as the implementation of the Bye-Law begins on August 1, 2026.
