Mrs Olufunmilola Obafemi-Moses, Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) of the Foundation, in her remarks during the presentation of the food items to the beneficiaries said that many single mothers were suffering.
Obafemi-Moses said this informed the organisation’s decision to intervene and help lighten the burden of single mothers by way of donating the food items to the beneficiaries.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event had as it’s theme “Single Parenting, Yet Not Lonely” .
The NAN also reports that the food items include rice, noodles, oil, vegetable oil, tinned tomatoes, salt, seasoning among others.
She explained that the event aimed to bring hope to single mothers, adding that the vision of the NGO was to do its bit to change the society, community, state, Nation and the world at large
According to her, when we look at single parents within our environment, what comes to mind is what can we do for them?
“This is because many of them are suffering and most of them can’t even afford a meal before going to bed.
“So the foundation came up with the single parenting initiative which is a brain child of critical analysis and research of the organisation.
“The single parenting initiative is another programme aspect of the foundation which aims to reach out to single parents, letting them know that they are not alone.
“What our foundation is all out for, is to eleviate a little burden from them, counsel and give them food stuffs that would last for a while,” she said
The CEO disclosed that the foundation had been involved in series of empowerment for the less privileged children and those living with disability, though it was just inaugurating the single parenting initiative.
She also said that the NGO recently commenced it’s “Queens for Pads” innovation, which is geared towards reaching out to female students in secondary schools and teaching them hygiene and how they could help themselves as well as give them pads.
Obafemi-Moses however said that the foundation needed partners, supporters and volunteers as it had presence in other states aside Lagos.
She also revealed the organisation’s plan to establish businesses and small SMEs for single parents and appealed to Nigerians not to looked away from their plight but to collaborate with the foundation to help them.
