In Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Tella has continued to distinguish himself as a lawmaker whose performance speaks louder than political rhetoric. Through effective lawmaking, strategic oversight, constituency development, and people-centred empowerment programmes, he has demonstrated that public office is a platform for service.
Since assuming office as the representative of Abeokuta North State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Tella has established himself as one of the Assembly’s most productive legislators.
His impressive legislative portfolio includes landmark bills such as the Ogun State Rural and Semi-Urban Integration and Development Bill, the Ogun State Orders of Precedence of Public Officers and Other Persons Bill, the Scavengers and Waste Dealers Law, 2025, the Ogun State Agricultural Advancement and Sustainability Bill, 2025, and the Bill for the Establishment of the Ogun State Boundary Commission. These legislative initiatives reflect his commitment to rural development, security, agriculture, environmental management, and institutional reforms.
Beyond sponsoring bills, Hon. Tella has played significant roles in co-sponsoring several important laws, including successive Appropriation Bills, the Principal-General Establishment Law, the Ogun State Consumer Protection Law, and the Ogun State Commercial Vehicles Law. From protecting the indigenous Adire industry against foreign encroachment to advocating improvements in the operations of the Amotekun Corps, reconstruction of dangerous road medians, establishment of a Health Trust Fund for Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, and ensuring sign language interpretation during government programmes, Hon. Tella has consistently demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of different segments of society while promoting inclusiveness and public welfare.
Working collaboratively with his colleagues, Hon. Tella has also co-sponsored several impactful motions that have shaped public policy in Ogun State. These include reviewing the state’s security architecture, reviving the State Polytechnic, Ipokia, promoting exclusive breastfeeding alongside six months’ maternity leave for nursing mothers, lifting the suspension on NURTW activities, facilitating indigenous participation in the Lafarge Cement Plc divestment, harmonising trailer and truck driver associations, reconstructing the Ebute–Oja-Odan Road linking Nigeria with the Republic of Benin, addressing trailer-related accidents, decongesting correctional centres, renaming Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Igbesa, after the late Senator Solomon Otegbola, and exempting teachers and health workers in rural communities from toll payments on the Ijebu-Ode–Epe Road.
His legislative agenda continues to expand with proposed motions on the employment of public health practitioners, reconstruction of the Gada-Aro Bridge in Abeokuta, and improved safety in water transportation across Ogun State.
Outside the legislative chamber, Hon. Tella has transformed communities through impactful infrastructure projects. Understanding the importance of security and improved living conditions, he has facilitated the installation of solar-powered street lights across numerous communities, including Kurere, Kara Rounda, Ponkuku, Koosa I and II, Isaga-Orile Market, Sangote, Kogo Village, Afibukun CDA in Soyooye, Streamside Estate in Ita Oshin, Olosun Phase II, Elega Market, and Adio Ajegunle. Through strategic collaboration with Hon. Olumide Osoba, additional solar lighting projects reached Olosun, Odo-Eran, Ikija, Ibara-Orile, and Tibo-Falekan. He also facilitated the construction of the Olosun Culvert and supported the construction of Isaga-Orile Road and the Ita Oshin–Ibara-Orile Road through the intervention of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), while also securing boreholes for Imala and Apata Idofoi communities.
Perhaps no intervention better illustrates Hon. Tella’s commitment to improving lives than his extensive water projects. Recognising that access to clean water remains one of the greatest challenges facing many communities, he facilitated the construction of sixteen functional boreholes strategically located across Abeokuta North. Each project was fully equipped with generators, stanchions, and water fetching points, serving communities including Idi-Ori, Ishaga, Oriyanrin, Ilawo Titun, Iberekodo, Oyan Dam via Imala, Ikija, Kurere, Olosun, Oke-Ata Housing Estate, Elega Housing Estate, Oja-Agbo (Gbagura), Ilewo-Orile, Araromi-Gaa, Fagbenro via Ilewo, and Ijale-Papa. It was in recognition of these life-changing interventions that the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, famously described him as “Baba Oniwe,” praising him for not only sponsoring numerous bills and motions but also “giving life by providing water where there was none.”
Hon. Tella’s passion for human capital development has equally earned him widespread admiration. More than 350 constituents have benefited from his empowerment initiatives through the distribution of grinding machines, sewing machines, knapsack sprayers, coolers, fertilizers, herbicides, mathematics dictionaries, exercise books, and financial support.
He has facilitated employment opportunities for qualified indigenes into the Ogun State Civil Service, TRACE, and the Amotekun Corps. Financial assistance has also been extended to various community organisations, including CDC Metrol, CDC Youth, CDC Harmony Gardens, Thunder Rock Church, Iwalewa Group, and CDC Ilupeju Oke-Odo. During his first anniversary in office, he organised one of the largest empowerment programmes in the constituency, attended by prominent dignitaries including the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide; Hon. Olumide Osoba; Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun; Chief Adekunle Adeshina; Hon. Olufemi Adiro; and the Abeokuta North APC Chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde. Beneficiaries unanimously described him as a promise keeper who consistently places the welfare of his constituents above personal interests.
The widespread endorsements Hon. Tella continues to receive are a reflection of the confidence reposed in his leadership. Community leaders, party stakeholders, traditional rulers, and ordinary residents have repeatedly acknowledged his accessibility, humility, and unwavering commitment to service. The APC Chairman in Abeokuta North, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, aptly summarised his achievements with the timeless saying that “water has no enemy,” while commending his efforts in solving one of the constituency’s most pressing challenges.
Hon. Babatunde Tella’s record leaves little room for doubt. He has proven that effective representation is measured by legislation that improves governance, infrastructure that transforms communities, empowerment that changes lives, and leadership that remains accessible to the people.
As preparations gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Hon. Babatunde Tella has expressed profound appreciation to the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government for once again entrusting him with the party’s ticket to contest for a second term in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
He described the nomination as a humbling vote of confidence in his performance and pledged to justify the trust reposed in him through even greater service, effective representation, and sustained developmental initiatives.
Hon. Tella noted that the overwhelming support he has received from party leaders, stakeholders, and constituents serves as a renewed motivation to continue delivering quality legislation, impactful constituency projects, and people-oriented programmes. He reaffirmed his commitment to remaining accessible, accountable, and responsive to the aspirations of the people of Abeokuta North.
He also called on the electorate to remain steadfast in their support for the All Progressives Congress during the 2027 elections, urging them to vote massively for all APC candidates at every level.
According to him, continuity in progressive governance is essential to consolidating the developmental gains already recorded in Ogun State under the leadership of the APC.
He expressed confidence that with the support of the people, the party would secure another resounding victory and continue to deliver dividends of democracy across the state.
