The Coordinator of the Arewa Community in Osun State, Alhaji Umar Mohammad on Thursday distanced the broader Arewa community from the endorsement of Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term, describing the declaration as the position of only a section of Fulani residents in the state.
Reacting to reports that the Arewa community had adopted Governor Adeleke as its preferred candidate for the August 15 governorship election, Mohammad, who previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Non-Indigenes to former governor Gboyega Oyetola, said the endorsement did not represent the collective position of Hausa communities and recognized Arewa leadership structures across Osun State.
According to him, “This endorsement was made by some parts of the Fulani community in Osun State and not by the Hausa community or any recognized Seriki Hausawa in the state. It should not be interpreted as the position of the entire Arewa community.”
Alh Umar who double as former SSA and co-chairman for Non-Indegenes committee for AMBO/KAYODE GUBERNATORIAL election campaign emphasized that the Arewa community remains committed to peaceful participation and constructive engagement in the political affairs of Osun State, adding that members would continue to exercise their democratic rights in accordance with their convictions and interests.
He further stated that the Arewa community has thrown its weight behind the governorship ambition of Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, ahead of the forthcoming election.
“The Arewa community is fully in support of the governorship aspiration of Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO). We believe in his vision and leadership qualities, and we are prepared to support his candidature,” Mohammad said.
He called on political stakeholders and the public to avoid generalizing the position of individual groups as representing the entire Arewa population in the state, stressing the need for inclusiveness and proper consultation in matters relating to community endorsements and political declarations.
He added that plans are underway for a major political gathering by members of the community in support of the APC candidate and his running mate.
“Very soon, our people in Osun State will witness a gigantic endorsement rally by the Arewa Community APC in Osun State for the AMBO/Kayode 2026 ticket,” he declared.
Umar also expressed appreciation to Alhaji Kabiru Okikiola, founder of the Ajisope Initiatives Foundation, for his support to the Arewa community across Osun State. He commended Okikiola for providing cash gifts to Hausa traditional leaders, including Serikis across the state, as well as distributing Ramadan relief packages to members of the Arewa community during the holy month of Ramadan.
