The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has dismissed as false and misleading the announcement claiming that Otunba Jimi Lawal emerged winner of the party’s governorship primary election in the state.
In a statement signed by the Ogun State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Olumide Onabajo, the party described the declaration allegedly made by Barrister Adebimpe Adelowo as unauthorized, null and void.
According to the statement, Barrister Adelowo was not a member of the duly constituted electoral committee sent by the national leadership of the party to supervise the governorship primary election in Ogun State and therefore lacked the authority to announce any result on behalf of the party.
The party clarified that the official electoral committee for the exercise was chaired by Adeniyi Adams, while Babatunde Moshood served as secretary.
ADC stated that the authentic governorship primary election was peacefully conducted across all wards in Ogun State under the supervision of the recognized electoral committee, adding that at the end of the exercise, Dr. Biodun Collins Ogundipe, popularly known as BCO, emerged victorious and was duly declared winner.
The party maintained that the exercise was free, fair and credible, noting that party leaders, members, security agencies, observers and other stakeholders monitored the process across the state.
The statement condemned attempts by what it described as unauthorized individuals to circulate fabricated results and create confusion within the party and the public.
“The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogun State Chapter, has been drawn to a misleading and unauthorized publication claiming that one Barrister Adebimpe Adelowo announced Otunba Jimi Lawal as the winner of the Ogun State Governorship Primary Election.
“We hereby state categorically that the said announcement is null, void, misleading, and of no effect whatsoever”.
The party further said Dr. Ogundipe remained committed to building a united and prosperous Ogun State through people-oriented governance.
According to the statement, his agenda includes youth empowerment and job creation through technology, agriculture and industrial development, improved healthcare services, revitalization of education, support for small businesses and infrastructural renewal across the state.
The ADC also assured party faithful and supporters that the party remained united and focused ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging members of the public to disregard what it called fake results being circulated.
