Stakeholders across Afon Town and communities in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State have unanimously endorsed Hon. Jemili Adigun Akingbade for another term as Member representing Imeko-Afon State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was contained in a statement delivered by the Secretary of Afon Youth Movement, Samuel Ogunrinola, on behalf of traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women groups, artisans, market leaders and political stakeholders across more than 750 villages and settlements in the constituency on Friday.
According to the stakeholders, the decision followed “patience, calculation and strategic positioning” by leaders in the area.
They declared that the era of “politics of whispers” had ended, stressing that the endorsement was a clear and open declaration of support for continuity.
The statement emphasized that Hon. Akingbade’s previous victories were products of democratic processes.
"At no point in his political journey has he been imposed on the people. His emergence has always been through the ballot box, reflecting the trust and confidence of the electorate".
The stakeholders noted that Akingbade’s aspiration for a fourth term is constitutionally valid and should be judged on his performance rather than political sentiments.
They cited his contributions to grassroots governance, including support for the creation of Afon LCDA, provision of boreholes, road construction, empowerment programmes, and educational initiatives.
They also commended the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for encouraging consensus politics within the ruling party.
They specifically referenced the emergence of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as APC governorship flag bearer, describing it as “a reflection of inclusiveness and political wisdom.”
Reacting to the endorsement, Hon. Jemili Adigun Akingbade expressed gratitude to the people for their support.
“I am excited today because our people are happy and they want the House of Assembly position to remain in Isokan, particularly the Afon zone.
“Leadership is not about oppressing people but about bringing development and uplifting the community. I have always remained among my people, and we will continue to carry everyone along.”
Also speaking, the Oba Ladi of Afon His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewanre, described the event as a historic affirmation of unity.
“Today’s gathering is glorious because our people came out en masse to confirm the consensus candidate chosen by leaders. He is well known to us and trusted by the community,” the monarch said.
The royal father also praised the administration of Bola Tinubu, noting improvements in fuel availability. “There was a time people struggled at petrol stations, but now fuel is available.
Stakeholders assured Governor Abiodun, Senator Adeola and Hon. Akingbade of their commitment to mobilize voters and maintain unity across the constituency ahead of the elections.
