We wish to state unequivocally that the harmony currently enjoyed within the local government must not be jeopardized by actions capable of creating division or undermining fairness among the constituent communities. The Oke-Ogun Community should no longer be treated as a political cannon fodder or spare tyre in the affairs of the local government.
For the purpose of clarity and proper record:
The Oke-Ona Community is currently serving its second consecutive term as Council Chairman, with Hon. Ayorinde handing over to Hon. Lanre Sodiipo Oyegbola.
The State Organising Secretary of our great party, Alhaji Yemi Adelani-Igwe, also from Oke-Ona, is equally serving his second term in office.
From Owu Community, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, the Honourable Commissioner, is serving a second term.
From Gbagura, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi-Akintunde, the local government Party Chairman, is also in her second term, alongside the State Attorney General.
In contrast, the only elective position presently held by the Oke-Ogun Community is the House of Assembly seat.It is on record that for over thirty years, Oke-Ogun did not occupy any elective position until 2023, when Hon. Dr. Tunde Tella emerged victorious and began delivering purposeful and impactful representation.
We therefore ask, in all sincerity: Is it too much for Oke-Ogun to seek a second term for its only elective office?
The answer is clearly No.
Hon. Dr. Tunde Tella has distinguished himself through exceptional performance, quality representation, and tangible constituency development. His legislative contributions and grassroots impact are widely acknowledged and, indeed, unprecedented in the recent history of legislative representation in Ogun State.
In light of the above, any attempt to endorse or impose an aspirant from Oke-Ona for this position at this time would be viewed as:
A disregard for equity and fairness, and
An unfriendly disposition not only towards the people of Oke-Ogun but also towards other peace-loving communities in Abeokuta North.
Such a move will not be acceptable and will be firmly resisted through all legitimate and democratic means.
We emphasize that the Oke-Ogun Community remains a committed and responsible partner in the progress and development of Abeokuta North. However, partnership must be rooted in mutual respect, justice, and inclusiveness.
Enough is enough. What rightfully belongs to Oke-Ogun should be respected and preserved.
We therefore call on party leaders, stakeholders, and members to uphold the principles of fairness, unity, and justice by supporting the continuation of the good work being done by Hon. Dr. Tunde Tella.
