This formed the focus of a strategic engagement held on Tuesday at the command, where the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Elizabeth Akinlade, called on officers to recommit themselves to the core values and founding ideals of the Corps.
Speaking at the gathering, Mohammed said the meeting was convened as an opportunity for officers to reflect on their responsibilities and renew their dedication to duty and public service.
“This gathering is meant for reflection and rededication to duty and service. The deployment of senior officers is a strategic response to recent operational concerns within our commands,” he said.
The Corps Marshal explained that the intervention became necessary following identified trends threatening the integrity of the organisation, including a noticeable decline in discipline and professionalism among some field personnel.
According to him, misconduct such as abuse of authority, unethical practices, and other unprofessional behaviours undermine public trust and jeopardise the credibility of the Corps.
“When public confidence is lost, it becomes increasingly difficult for the Corps to achieve its mandate.” he stated.
He further stressed that the deployment of senior officers was aimed at mentoring personnel and reinforcing the standards of discipline and professionalism expected within the Corps.
“They are to engage with officers and ensure effective command and control across the commands. Discipline should not be seen as punishment but as a protective measure that safeguards the Corps’ reputation, officers’ careers, and the public we serve,” he added.
Mohammed also warned that acts such as extortion and harassment were illegal and contrary to the oath sworn by officers of the Corps.
“Leadership by example is critical. Senior officers must model the standards expected of others, while young officers must respect the uniform and maintain public trust through their conduct,” he said.
Also speaking, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Ogun State, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, emphasized the need to strengthen a culture of discipline and accountability within the command.
Fasakin explained that the command already operates a system of rewards and sanctions to encourage professionalism among officers and personnel.
“We must reinforce a culture of discipline and accountability within the Corps. While we reward diligence and professionalism, we also ensure that misconduct is appropriately sanctioned,” he said.
He further warned that officers who fail to report wrongdoing would also be held accountable.
“Silence in the face of misconduct will not be tolerated because it amounts to complicity,” the sector commander stated.
