Ogun Youth Assembly Congratulates NUJ on Press Week Celebration

The Ogun Youth Assembly (OYA) has congratulated the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, on the beginning of 2025 Press Week celebration.

In a congratulatory message signed by its Chairman, Ambassador Habeeb Whyte on Monday, the Assembly described the Press Week as a remarkable platform for reflection, interaction, and recognition of the vital role of journalists in advancing democracy and societal development.

Ambassador Whyte commended the leadership of the Ogun State NUJ, under the chairmanship of Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, for organizing a thought-provoking and impactful week that brought together journalists, media executives, policymakers, and other stakeholders across the state.

He lauded the council for sustaining the culture of excellence and professionalism that has become the hallmark of the Ogun NUJ over the years.

According to him, the Press Week was not only a moment of celebration but also a time to acknowledge the sacrifices and commitments of journalists who continuously shape public opinion and hold leaders accountable.

The youth leader emphasized that journalism remains the conscience of society, noting that Ogun State is blessed with some of the finest media practitioners in Nigeria.

Ambassador Whyte particularly commended Ogun journalists for their courage, objectivity, and dedication to the ethics of the profession despite numerous challenges.

He expressed appreciation to all media houses in the state for their continuous partnership with the youth constituency in promoting peace, development, and civic engagement.

His words “ the media plays a critical role in youth development by amplifying voices, shaping narratives, and holding institutions accountable to the people.

“I just want to appeal to our journalists to continue to adhere to the tenets of fairness, balance, and accuracy in their reportage, stressing that a free and responsible press remains the lifeline of any democratic society.

“I salute the efforts of the Ogun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, for providing visionary leadership and fostering unity within the journalism family in the state.

“I wish the Ogun NUJ a successful and memorable Press Week, praying for greater achievements, professional excellence, and protection for all journalists in the discharge of their duties.”

He reaffirmed that the Ogun Youth Assembly remains proud of the state’s vibrant media community and stands ready to work closely with them to promote a better, more informed society.
