Ambassador Whyte, while commending Governor Dapo Abiodun for his infrastructural strides, particularly in the area of road construction, stressed that more needed to be done to alleviate the suffering of residents and commuters.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen on Friday, Whyte noted that the deplorable condition of many roads had continued to hinder smooth transportation, cause accidents, and weaken the economic activities of the state.
He said that several highways within Ogun, including those in Abeokuta, had become virtually impassable, resulting in traffic congestion and damage to vehicles. According to him, the situation poses serious risks to the lives of motorists and pedestrians.
“Governor Abiodun has done remarkably well with road construction projects across Ogun State, but the reality is that we still have a lot more to be done. Many of our people face daily hardship because of bad roads,” he said.
Citing an example, Ambassador Whyte pointed to the Lafenwa–Rounder axis of Abeokuta, where road users currently depend on a single lane.
He added that Saje , Elega, Mokola, Ajitadun roads are not in good condition .
He argued that the road network in the state plays a central role in its economic growth, noting that Ogun is a fast-developing state with industries, markets, and educational institutions that require a functional transportation system.
According to him “ improved road infrastructure would not only ease movement but also attract more investment and reduce the high cost of vehicle maintenance suffered by residents.
“ I appealed to the State Government to adopt a holistic approach by extending road projects to rural and semi-urban areas because many communities remain cut off due to poor access roads” he said.
