According to a release signed by the Media Director of Ladi Adebutu Development Organisation, Afolabi Orekoya on Sunday, Adebutu said “With a heart heavy with grief but full of gratitude for a life exceptionally lived, we join the Adetona Royal family, Ogbagba ruling house and the entire Ijebuland in mourning the glorious transition of a towering royal figure, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, GCON, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland”.
The statement said further “Kabiyesi was not just a traditional ruler, he was royalty in its truest, noblest form. For over six remarkable decades, he reigned with wisdom, courage, and an unbending commitment to truth and justice. His throne was not just a seat of culture and tradition, it became a moral compass for the nation”.
“Oba Adetona was a rare blend of royalty and reform, a monarch who modernised the traditional institution while fiercely preserving its essence. His voice echoed with integrity. He was bold when others trembled, firm when others faltered, and deeply respected across political, cultural, and generational lines”.
Under his leadership and reign, Ijebuland witnessed unprecedented cultural revival, most notably through the global prominence of the Ojude Oba Festival, which became a colourful symbol of unity, heritage, and pride for the Ijebu people and Nigerians at large”.
Adebutu also extolled Kabiyesi’s influence saying it extended far beyond Ijebuland. “He was a king whose name opened doors, whose words commanded attention, and whose wisdom shaped decisions. To many of us, he was not just a king, he was a guardian of truth, a custodian of legacy, and a father-figure whose presence gave us confidence in our heritage and future”.
Adebutu described his departure as an irreplaceable loss, not just to Ijebuland, but to Yoruba land, to Ogun State, and to Nigeria. He also celebrated his impactful life, which was rich in honour, clarity, service, and royal distinction.
Adebutu extended his deepest condolences to the Adetona Royal Family, the Council of Chiefs, all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, and every heart that loved and revered Kabiyesi.
He prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Awujale, he prayed further that “May his soul rest in perfect peace, and his towering legacy endure across generations as a beacon of courage, integrity, and royal excellence.
