Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday on preparations for the pilgrimage, Alhaji Apelogun expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve and extended appreciation to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the trust reposed in him and his team through their recent appointments.
“Our primary assignment is to take care of the welfare of the intending pilgrims, to ensure a smooth and safe journey to and from Saudi Arabia,” he stated.
“We are working in coordination with the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON), aviation authorities, and Saudi officials to achieve this.”
According to the Amir Hajj, the inaugural flight for Ogun State pilgrims is scheduled for May 12, 2025, with the return journey expected on June 12 and 13.
He urged all pilgrims to strictly adhere to the guidelines and directives issued by the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board and other Hajj officials.
“By the grace of Allah, we will do our best. We have the experience — over ten pilgrimages — and we are committed to ensuring that Ogun State is well represented,” he said. “This is not for personal gain but for the glory of our state.”
Alhaji Apelogun also noted the significant reduction in the number of intending pilgrims due to current economic challenges, revealing that about 675 pilgrims are expected this year, compared to 1,200 last year.
He, however, assured that the welfare of this year’s contingent would be even better catered for.
He also warned pilgrims against any behaviour that could tarnish Nigeria’s image, stressing that Saudi authorities have zero tolerance for misconduct.
“We urge all pilgrims to go for supplication and prayer with discipline. Any action that could damage the image of Nigeria should be avoided completely. Almighty Allah will answer all our heartfelt prayers,” he said.
