Comptroller Hussien Kehinde Ejibunu, National Coordinator of Special Operations "Operation Whirlwind", disclosed this during a press briefing in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
He explained that the petrol intended for smuggling out of the country was intercepted alongside the vehicles while the fuel stations from which it was purchased were sealed.
According to Ejibunu, the team intercepted the petrol in various locations in Ogun state, including SEAYAB PETROLEUM along Imeko/Obada road, QUAWIYAN RESOURCE PETROLEUM NIG. LTD along Owode/Atan road, and JULANKY DIL & GAS along Owode/Ilaro road.
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, had earlier announced that a combined total of 280,135 liters of fuel was intercepted nationwide, valued at N195.5 million.
Comptroller Ejibunu disclosed that a truck carrying Seventy-seven drums of PMS (66 kegs of 25 litres each) equivalent to 15.400 litres at SEAYAB PETROLEUM along Imeko /Obada road in Ogun state. The means of conveyance is a truck with the Reg. No 9504244D. Friday 7th of June, 2024.
The drivers of the vehicles according to him are under protective custody.

“ 141 kegs of PMS at 25 litres each equivalent to 6025 litres at JULANKY OIL & GAS along Owode /llaro road in Ogun state. Means of conveyance Toyota Avalon cars with Ch. NO. 4TIBE28B72266597 and 4TIBF28B33298190 on Saturday 8 June, 2024” He said.
The Comptroller warned large truck owners to be careful of who they lend their vehicles to for businesses, warning that if found will all face the law.
He also warned those perpetrating this dastardly act to desist or have themselves to blame.
"Moving forward, more success will be recorded by the team taking into consideration the commitment of the NCS Management to fine tune certain areas for easy monitoring the distribution channel of petroleum products to the various states and filling Stations.
"I want to use this opportunity to sound a total of warning to those perpetrating this dastardly act to desist or have themselves blame."
