NUJ B Zone to honour Sen Shuaib Salisu in Celebration of 31st Edition of World Press Freedom Day

The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ B Zone which Comprises of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States is set to honour the Senator Representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu with the UN-instituted Guillermo Cano International Award set aside for eminent and distinguished media-friendly personality.

This is to commemorate this year's Press Freedom Day, an international event instituted by the United
Nations (UN) to promote, encourage, and support activities and efforts that guarantee freedom of expression and speeches all over the world.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Vice President B Zone, Afebioye Samo and the Secretary, AbdulRasaq Alege who said the union is aware of the Senator's laudable efforts in promoting, supporting and encouraging, not only a free press, but also that of every individual in the larger society.

Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu will also be speaking on the crucial role of a free press in a democracy.

The has been slated to hold on Thursday, May 9, 2024, by 10:00 am at the NUJ Press Centre, Iwe Iroyin, House 9, Gbadebo Street, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

"Journalists, media practitioners, and stakeholders in the democratic process are invited to attend the lecture, which promises to be an enriching and thought-provoking experience.

"All are welcome to attend and engage in this important conversation on the role of a free press in Nigeria's democracy."
