He stated that his decision is motivated by a deep passion for public service, a long-standing commitment to philanthropy, and strong grassroots advocacy.
Banjoko disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing stakeholders and support groups at a grassroots meeting held in Ifo Local Government Area of the district.
He noted that his aspiration to join the National Assembly stems from a logical continuation of his years of service to humanity, driven by a desire to empower and uplift the underprivileged in society.
“I have always believed that leadership is about service,” he said.
“My closeness to the grassroots has exposed me to the daily struggles of ordinary people, and I cannot stand by while they continue to suffer. My passion for the masses is what drives my decision to seek representation at the National Assembly.”
According to him, his aspiration is to leverage the legislative platform to expand the scope of interventions he has carried out over the years through the Threeco Foundation.
“My ambition is to use the Senate to continue doing what I have done all my life — supporting the socio-economically disadvantaged in our communities,” Banjoko said.
“Through the Threeco Foundation, we have provided scholarships for indigent students, empowerment programmes for women and youths, and sponsored medical outreaches in rural communities across the six local government areas of Ogun Central.”
Responding to questions from journalists on what he would bring to the office if elected, the senatorial hopeful said his agenda for Ogun Central would be anchored on inclusivity, accessibility and people-centred representation, which he noted were currently lacking.
“My philosophy of life is doing good, and it aligns perfectly with my motivation for public office,” he said.
“Unlike many public office holders who remain distant from the electorate, I operate an open-door policy and engage daily with market women, artisans, farmers and youth groups. This approach will be sustained, as the people will be the centre of all our actions.”
Speaking on behalf of support groups, a community leader, Reverend Yemi Adekunle, described Banjoko as a candidate uniquely positioned to represent Ogun Central effectively because of his grassroots connection.
“Threeco’s closeness to the people sets him apart,” Adekunle said.
“Beyond the philanthropy he is known for, his vision includes sponsoring legislation that will strengthen education, healthcare, community development and economic opportunities in the region.”
He added that the Senate should serve as a platform for amplifying the voices of the marginalised rather than a space for self-serving politics.
“Otunba Banjoko’s aspiration is already gaining widespread acceptance because his track record of compassion and grassroots engagement has made him a formidable contender in the race to represent Ogun Central at the Senate,” he said.
