Former Councillor in Abeokuta North Local Government and a member of the Ogun State Food Crops Marketing Board Hon Idowu Fakorede on Tuesday donated writing materials to his alma mater, Baptist Primary School, TIBO, Olorunda Ijale, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, as part of his effort to give back to society.
The donation, which included essential writing materials for pupils of the school, was presented during Parent-Teacher association meetings attended by teachers, parents, and community members.
The gesture was aimed at supporting learning and encouraging pupils to remain committed to their education.
While addressing teachers and parents, Hon. Fakorede expressed appreciation to the new head teacher and teachers of the school, noting that the head teacher had begun on a positive footing.
“I must commend the head teacher of this school. She has started on a very good note, and I am impressed with the progress so far,” he said.
Hon. Fakorede encouraged the teachers not to look down on themselves because the school is located in a rural area. According to him, working in rural communities should be seen as an opportunity to shape lives and build the future.
“Teachers in rural areas should never underestimate themselves. Impact is not measured by location but by dedication,” he stated.
Sharing his personal journey, Hon. Fakorede explained that most of his career had been spent serving rural communities.
“All my career is rural — from AkilÃyi to Ilogun Orile. From Ilogun Orile, I worked as a teacher at Omolomo Olukosi, and Anglican Nursery and primary school where I retired as Head teacher " he said.
He further reflected on his educational background, tracing his roots back to Baptist Primary School, TIBO.
“I started from this school many years ago,then Imala Community Grammar School, Divisional Teachers’ College Ayetoro, before proceeding to the Federal College of Education and later obtained my degree, Fakorede recounted.
Hon. Fakorede also advised parents on the importance of investing in their children’s education.
He urged them to provide moral guidance and support at home, stressing that education remains the most reliable tool for securing a better future for their children.
In her response, the head teacher of the school, Mrs. Agbonyin Oluwadamilare, expressed gratitude to Hon. Fakorede for the donation, describing it as timely and impactful.
She noted that the gesture would go a long way in improving learning outcomes for the pupils.
“We sincerely appreciate Hon. Fakorede for remembering his alma mater and supporting our pupils with these writing materials.This kind gesture shows his passion for education and community development.”
She assured parents and stakeholders that the donated materials would be used judiciously for the benefit of the pupils.
“We promise that the materials donated will be properly utilized to support teaching and learning in this school,” she added.
