The families who addressed a news conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, stated that the continuous detention of their loved ones/bread winners is causing them untold hardship.
They stated that their loved ones (Amotekun officers) rounded up, about three months ago, were not even on duty or at work in the Amotekun area command, under which jurisdiction the alleged Akinlalu killing incident happened.
Mrs Fatima Oroniran, the wife of one of the detained Amotekun officials, Damilare Oroniran, stated that her husband was home sick on the day of the incident, and was not at work.
She appeals to the police and Osun Government to please do the needful in securing her husband , as his continuous detention without trial has left her confused and frustrated.
Mrs Bukola Oroniran, the mother of Damilare Oroniran, equally appealed for the release of her son.
Oroniran, corroborating what the wife of her son said, added that her son had been sick for a week before the incident and that he was not at work when the killing took place.
Mrs Funmilola Fatai, the wife of Ajiboye Fatai, one of the detained officers, said her husband was not even in the state when the killing happened.
She stated that her husband had travelled to Ibadan, Oyo State, when the Akinlalu incident took place.
The family members appealed to the Nigerian Police to carryout their investigation to ascertain those culpable in the incident, adding that their operation must, however, be guided by facts and evidence, not suspicion.
They also appealed to the Osun State Amotekun Board Chairman, Mr Wale Abbas, to assist the police in their investigation and help in the release of their loved ones.
The, however, acknowledge that some Amotekun officers were indicated in the Akinlalu incident but stated that justice and human rights must be maintained in handling the matter, so that innocent people are not wrongful punished.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Police Command in Osun closed down Amotekun officers and operation in the state in October after some Amotekun officials were alleged of killing three residents of Akinlalu village on Sept. 30.
The police also arrested some officials of the Amotekun operatives, who where subsequently transfers to the Police Headquarters in Abuja, with the Amotekun Commander, Isaac Omoyele equally invited and detained.
