In a letter titled “Appreciation on CPS Implementation” and addressed to the governor, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Waheed Oloyede, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of pensioners across the state for the payment of accrued gratuities up to 2019.
He described the gesture as a significant relief for those who had served the state diligently and selflessly.
Comrade Oloyede noted that the implementation of the full Contributory Pension Scheme, which is scheduled to take effect from July 2, 2025, aligns with global best practices and ensures sustainable retirement benefits for future retirees.
He further commended the state government for approving palliative measures for workers retiring from July 2, 2025, to cushion the effects of the transition to the new scheme.
While applauding the administration’s efforts, the Union also appealed to Governor Abiodun to approve the Consequential Adjustment of Pensions in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular. It also urged the inclusion of retirees from tertiary institutions in the CPS to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
“However, we respectfully appeal to you, for your kind hearted approval of the long and much awaited Consequential Review of Pensions of the long standing Pensioners in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustments of Pensioners.
