Governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Oluwayose (Fayose), has rejected the outcome of November 6 primary election, describing the entire process as “a charade, deeply flawed, manipulated and unworthy of a democratic contest”.
Otunba Oluwayose, speaking through his Media Director, Wasiu Adejumo, expressed shock and disappointment at the level of violence, intimidation and electoral malpractice that allegedly characterized the exercise.
According to him, supporters and voters loyal to his aspiration were attacked, beaten, dispersed and injured at different locations, with several sustaining serious cuts and wounds.
“Our people were attacked, beaten and scattered. Many sustained injuries and deep cuts. This was not an election, it was an assault”, he stated.
He further revealed that his team had documented evidence of rigging, vote manipulation and deliberate inflation of figures, describing the conduct of the process as shameful and unacceptable for a party that prides itself on transparency.
“There were massive manipulations of figures, recorded, documented and backed with evidence. What happened today cannot stand in any democratic society”, he said.
Otunba Oluwayose questioned the controversial cancellation of votes in Ikere Local Government, a stronghold where he reportedly won with a wide margin.
“Why was Ikere’s result canceled? Everyone saw the turnout and the margin of victory. What justification exists for such anti-democratic action?”, he queried.
He therefore called for the outright cancellation of the primary election, insisting that the process did not reflect the will of ADC members in Ekiti State.
“We call for cancellation. The entire process was compromised from start to finish. It should not be allowed to stand”, he added.
Otunba Oluwayose disclosed that he is consulting with his legal team and may approach the court to seek redress and protect the mandate freely given to him by genuine ADC party members.
“We are considering heading to court. Democracy must be defended. The mandate of the people cannot be stolen through violence and manipulation”, he affirmed.
He thanked all supporters, party delegates, youth groups, women leaders and observers who stood firm despite intimidation, assuring them that the quest for a better Ekiti is not yet over.
“Our movement remains strong. We will pursue justice through every lawful means”, he concluded.
