Otunba Babatunde Alatise Declares Interest in Awujale Throne, Promises Inclusive Growth, Lasting Development for Ijebu Land

Otunba (Engr.) Babatunde Alatise FCIA, MNSE, MNMGS, COREN, COMEG, has formally declared his intention to ascend the Awujale stool, pledging a new era of development and prosperity for the people of Ijebu land.

During a visit to the Bubiade royal family house on Sunday, October 12, 2025, led by Alhaji O. B. Yusuf, Alatise addressed elders and stakeholders, outlining his vision for Ijebu land. “My interest is not only for peace and progress alone,” he said. “I would bring several business opportunities to the people of Ijebu land.”

Alatise, a seasoned engineer and administrator, emphasized the need for structured community engagement through a Community Development Agreement (CDA). “If I am selected as the next Awujale of Ijebu land,” he stated, “I would make sure that mining companies sign the agreement which would further develop Ijebu land.”

He also spoke about the region’s untapped mineral wealth, asserting, “There’s gold in Ijebu land, only that it hasn’t been discovered yet.”

Beyond resource development, Alatise promised to tackle housing challenges by leveraging his professional network. “With my wealth of experience and connection,” he said, “I would facilitate low-cost housing.”

The declaration marks a significant milestone in Alatise’s bid for the revered traditional throne, as he continues consultations with royal houses and community leaders across Ijebu land.
