Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the forthcoming Remo Federal Constituency by-election, Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole, has pledged to prioritise women empowerment if elected, unveiling plans for an interest-free soft loan scheme aimed at boosting their economic stability.
Speaking on Sunday during the monthly guest forum organised by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta, Oluwole lamented the economic challenges facing women in the state, stressing that his intervention programme would help them overcome financial hardship.
“Our women are suffering in this state. I am putting up a programme to give them soft loans, and there will be no interest. I have helped a lot of women pay off their Lapo loans,” he said.
The PDP candidate explained that women form the backbone of his campaign structure, noting that about 70% of his supporters are women.
“Men are fewer in my campaign because men know that once you make their wives happy, their blood pressure will be normal,” he added with a smile.
Oluwole also stated that beyond economic empowerment, he plans to sponsor bills focusing on security, education, and healthcare if given the mandate.
Accusing political opponents of frustrating his campaign visibility, he alleged that he has been denied the opportunity to place billboards in his constituency, even though other parties were granted such permission. Despite this, he maintained confidence in his popularity.
“Even a newborn baby knows that in Remo Federal Constituency election, Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole is the candidate to beat,” he declared.
Oluwole also described himself as a protégé of Hon. Ladi Adebutu, whom he praised for following the political legacy of former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
“After the era of OGD, there’s no politician like Ladi Adebutu in our constituency and Ladi Adebutu is following the footsteps of Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
“And I Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole I’m following the footsteps of Hon. Ladi Adebutu” he said.
