APC Accuses PDP of Using CCET to Spread “Baseless Allegations” Ahead of Remo Bye-Election

A media aide to Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of orchestrating a smear campaign against Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, through the Centre for Civil Education and Transparency (CCET).

In a statement signed by Akinleye Olu-Philips, the All Progressives Congress (APC) described CCET’s recent claims of electoral malpractice and “foisting an unpopular candidate” as “malicious fabrications” aimed at undermining public confidence ahead of the forthcoming Remo Federal Constituency Bye-Election.

According to the statement, CCET’s allegations are “a desperate PDP script” born out of the party’s fear of “inevitable and humiliating defeat” in the polls. It maintained that the APC’s popularity in Ogun State is rooted in “years of purposeful governance, developmental strides, and genuine service delivery” under Governor Abiodun.

The APC dismissed the accusations of running a “rigging machinery” as “figments of CCET’s politically compromised imagination,” insisting that Governor Abiodun’s administration has upheld transparent governance, respect for the rule of law, and non-interference in the operations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The statement further challenged CCET to present “credible, verifiable evidence” to back its claims, warning that Nigerians would otherwise view its position as “political theatre” designed to mask PDP’s dwindling influence in Remo politics.

Describing PDP’s strategy as “tired games of false accusations,” the APC urged voters to reject attempts to incite fear and distrust ahead of the bye-election, promising to maintain an issues-based campaign built on visible achievements and a track record of fulfilled promises.

The party also advised CCET to “return to its original mandate of promoting genuine civic engagement” instead of serving as “an attack dog for the opposition.”
