Ogun FRSC Holds Capacity Building for Officers to Enhance Road Safety Operations ,Command Effectiveness

In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery, the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has organized a capacity-building workshop for its commanding officers and heads of driver’s license centres.

Speaking on Thursday at the opening of the training, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Oladapo Fasakin, said the initiative was aimed at improving command and control effectiveness across the state. 

He noted that while the Corps had over the years conducted similar workshops for transport unions and stakeholders, the focus this time was on the development of its officers.

Fasakin explained that 12 unit commanders, 12 heads of drivers’ license centres, four outpost commanders, and five special marshals were participating in the training. 

According to him, “We are developing our staff through training, retraining, workshops and seminars. We have to marry public enlightenment with enforcement because both must go hand in hand. While we have done capacity building for unions in the past, the priority now is to ensure our officers are better equipped to deliver on their mandate.”

Guest Speaker and Lagos State FRSC Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, commended the initiative, describing training as a key differentiator in modern law enforcement. 

He stressed that periodic training was necessary to keep officers abreast of evolving technologies and operational practices, while also helping them uphold human rights in the discharge of their duties.

Hamzat explained that beyond enforcement, the FRSC also carries out quarterly free vehicle safety checks to enlighten motorists. “Enlightenment without enforcement is simply entertainment,” he said, adding that officers must be guided to balance enforcement with respect for road users’ rights.

“ The training is what makes the difference between human and animal and of course, as a technology improves, there is need to bring up a man to the standard of the new technology available. 


“Road safety as a body. You know, we do a lot of programs. This one is specifically for the officers who drive the activities of operations in the command. Don’t forget, We do more of public enlightenment to let members of the public understand what we are meant for. It's not all about arrest. 


“We still carry out enforcement because enlightenment without enforcement is simply entertainment”.


Also delivering a lecture, former Ogun State Commissioner of Police and current security consultant to the state government, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun (rtd), stressed the importance of collaboration between FRSC and relevant stakeholders. 

He noted that effective partnerships would help the Corps identify priority areas such as road repairs, improve operational effectiveness, and reduce accidents.

Ajogun urged officers to map out stakeholders based on peculiar challenges in their commands and leverage their expertise and resources. 

“At the end of this training, you should be able to draw a framework for collaboration that will enhance FRSC’s responsibility of ensuring safer roads in Ogun State,” he stated.
