The newly elected Towulade of Akinale, Oba (Dr.) Oluseyi Adediran, has pledged to use his reign to foster unity and promote sustainable development in Akinale town, both for indigenes at home and in the diaspora.
Oba Adediran , who hails from the Oluko royal family, made this known while speaking to newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday during his ongoing seclusion process at the Atapa in the Owu Kingdom, as part of the traditional rites.
The Oba-elect, who will ascend the throne as Otileta I, Towulade of Akinale II, expressed gratitude to God for the historic moment and reaffirmed his commitment to leading with vision and purpose.
He revealed that his great-grandfather once ruled the Owu Kingdom, and his emergence is seen as a divine continuation of his lineage’s legacy.
“This is God’s plan,” Oba Oluseyi said. “Our history reveals that my great-grandparents were among the earliest Olowu rulers. My family is filled with joy to witness this new chapter in our history.”
He commended the current Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola, Otileta VII, for his exemplary leadership and steadfast preservation of cultural values, which he described as instrumental in his journey to the throne.
Looking ahead, Oba Oluseyi Adediran outlined key focus areas for his reign, including youth empowerment, education, and infrastructural development.
Among his priorities are the renovation of the abandoned town hall, launch of educational support programmes, and inclusive initiatives aimed at giving young people the opportunity to thrive.
The Monarch emphasized the importance of unity, particularly among those who contested the stool with him.
“As a student of peace, I want to ensure everyone is carried along. There is no progress without unity,” he affirmed.
Also speaking at the event, the Alojee of Owu Kingdom, Chief Babatunde Adio Ojerinde, expressed confidence in the leadership potential of the Oba-elect.
He said “The newly elected king is ready to learn, and he is learning.”
The meeting was attended by several high-ranking chiefs of Owu Kingdom, including High Chief Adelani Aderemi Oyega, the Obamaja of Owu, Chief Olanrewaju Oseni Abdulateef, Chief Babatunde Adio Ojerinde (Aloje of Owu), Chief Olusola Adeoya (Osuporu of Owu), among others.
