The Vice Chairman of the Ogun State Athletics Association, Mr. Babajide Odedeji, has been appointed as the Safeguarding Officer on the board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
His appointment was confirmed during the elective Congress of the AFN, which was held in Abuja on Thursday. The Congress, which drew key stakeholders from across the country, also saw the re-election of Chief Tonobok Okowa as President, giving him another term to lead the Federation.
Mr. Odedeji, a respected sports administrator and advocate for athlete welfare, expressed his appreciation for the appointment and pledged to bring his wealth of experience into his new national role.
“I am truly honored by this opportunity to serve on the AFN board. As Safeguarding Officer, I am committed to ensuring the safety, dignity, and protection of all athletes within our sport. I will work closely with stakeholders to promote a secure and supportive environment for everyone involved,” Odedeji stated.
Born in Ogun State, Odedeji has played a significant role in the development of athletics at the grassroots and state levels. His elevation to the national stage is seen as a testament to his dedication, integrity, and passion for athlete development and welfare.
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is the governing body for athletics in the country and plays a central role in nurturing talent, organizing competitions, and representing Nigeria in international athletics.
Odedeji’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the Federation’s commitment to safeguarding principles and athlete well-being as it moves into a new phase of leadership under Chief Okowa.
