The Acting Zonal Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS 2 Command, covering Lagos and Ogun States, Ann Oladayo Odeleye, FSI, has reiterated the Corps’ commitment to zero tolerance for road crashes across the zone, with a renewed emphasis on road safety, integrity, and performance.
Mrs. Odeleye, who is a Fellow of the Security Institute (FSI), made this known during her working visit to Ogun State on Monday where she commissioned a newly built clinic donated to the Corps by the Special Marshals of Ogun State.
The clinic is aimed at improving the welfare and medical response capacity of the FRSC in the state.
The visit, undertaken at the invitation of the Ogun State Sector Commander, also marked the commencement of her strategic tour of all command units under the Ogun State command.
According to her, the tour is necessary as part of her familiarization efforts following her recent assumption of duty.
She stated that the inspection will help assess the performance of unit commanders and ensure alignment with the Corps’ 2025 strategic goals.
“Our strategy for 2025 is very clear: zero tolerance for road crashes. We do not want to see crashes along the Lagos-Ibadan corridor or anywhere else in our zone.
"My message to the motoring public is simple drive to stay alive. Check your vehicles every day, especially your tires. Safe tires save lives,” Odeleye emphasized.
She also urged motorists to avoid speeding, refrain from using phones while driving, and always use seatbelts.
“If you must drink, don’t drive. If you must drive, don’t drink. These simple rules can save lives,” she added.
The Acting Zonal Commander further called on the media to help project the advocacy of road safety awareness, particularly emphasizing the importance of vehicle maintenance and driver alertness.
In a strong message to FRSC personnel, Odeleye warned against corruption within the Corps.
“The FRSC is a corps built on integrity. We are an elite and reputable organization. Any officer found engaging in bribery or corrupt practices will be properly dealt with. We will not tolerate corruption in this zone.”
She stressed that officers must not collect bribes nor solicit money from road users, as such actions undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the Corps.
As part of her visit to Ogun State, the Acting Zonal Commanding Officer accompanied by the State Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin also paid courtesy visits to traditional rulers, including the Alake of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and the Osile of Oke Ona, His Royal Majesty Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, to seek their royal blessings and support in promoting road safety initiatives in the state.
