Speaking to newsmen after the event on Sunday, Hon. Nwaimo Charles, a passionate football enthusiast and the official commentator for the tournament, expressed his delight at being part of the event.
He highlighted the significance of the tournament, describing it as a platform for reunion, celebration, and gratitude to God for the gift of life.
“This event is about reunion and togetherness, It allows us to merry, bond, and reconnect with one another. It’s also a moment to celebrate life and appreciate God for keeping us alive.”
He advised Nigerian youths to stay away from drugs and pursue their passions, emphasizing that engaging in meaningful activities like sports or business can help them avoid crime.
The coordinator of the Tournament, Olanrewaju Sheriff Olalekan described this year’s edition as a milestone, noting that it was distinct from previous years.
He said the final match was highly competitive, with the better team emerging as the winner. He acknowledged the sense of brotherhood that exists among the players and participants.
“We play on this field every Sunday, and beyond football, we support each other financially, morally, and in every way possible. What happens on the pitch never affects our relationship because we see ourselves as one big family.”
Sheriff revealed that the club had previously supported the Premier Grammar School by painting its classrooms adding that this year they plan to do more by contributing financially to further the school’s development.
One of the club’s members, Mr. Taofeek Ogunkunle, commended the turnout for this year’s tournament.
He lauded the members for their active participation and contributions to the success of the event, emphasizing that the unity displayed was a testament to the strength of their bond.
His words “ The Premier 5-Aside Tournament has become a yearly tradition, symbolizing friendship, brotherhood, and social development.
“ Our aim is to use sports as a tool to promote unity, instill discipline, and encourage community development.”
Awards were presented to outstanding players during the tournament. The best player, best goalkeeper, best referee, the tournament winner, and the runner-up were all recognized and celebrated.
