IBEDC Pledges Network Investments to Boost Industrial Power Supply in Ogun

…MD, Ijose, engages industrial customers in Sagamu, Ota

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to investing in electricity distribution infrastructure and improving service delivery to industrial customers in Ogun State.

The company said it was pursuing strategic network investments, targeted resource deployment and improved customer engagement to enhance the quality and reliability of electricity supply to its Maximum Demand (MD) customers across its franchise areas.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IBEDC, Mr. Deolu Ijose, gave the assurance on Tuesday during stakeholder engagement sessions with industrial customers in Sagamu and Ota, Ogun State.
The meetings provided an opportunity for IBEDC’s management and industrial stakeholders to discuss electricity supply challenges, address operational concerns and explore practical solutions to improve power delivery to businesses.

Speaking during the engagements, Ijose said the company’s new Board and Management, which assumed leadership earlier this year following the end of a prolonged period of receivership, had prioritised infrastructure improvements and more effective deployment of available resources.
He said, “Since the new leadership assumed office, we have been working to address the investment constraints that affected network development. Our focus is on making strategic investments, strengthening distribution infrastructure and improving the quality of service delivered to our customers.”

The IBEDC chief executive acknowledged the importance of industrial customers to economic development, noting that reliable electricity supply remained essential to manufacturing, productivity, employment generation and business expansion.
According to him, the company is implementing several interventions to improve network performance and minimise disruptions to industrial operations.

“Our industrial customers are important partners in economic growth. We understand that reliable electricity is critical to their productivity, and we are working to improve supply through feeder rehabilitation, the deployment of auto-reclosers and collaboration with other stakeholders in the electricity value chain,” he said.

Ijose added that the company was exploring additional measures to address supply constraints and create a more conducive operating environment for businesses.
The interventions include feeder reinforcement, vegetation management along distribution lines, dedicated fault-response arrangements and the exploration of direct power purchase agreements (PPAs) and off-grid electricity solutions to complement supply from the national grid.

The discussions also enabled participating companies to raise concerns about electricity availability, voltage stability, infrastructure maintenance and the timely resolution of faults affecting their operations.

A representative of AB Blast, Adekunle Hassan, emphasised the importance of stable electricity supply to manufacturing businesses, noting that fluctuations in power availability and voltage could affect production planning and operational efficiency.
Hassan said, “For manufacturing companies, electricity availability and voltage stability are essential to maintaining efficient operations. Timely information about planned maintenance, line upgrades and fault resolution would help businesses plan production more effectively and minimise disruptions.”

He welcomed the engagement with IBEDC’s management, expressing the hope that sustained communication would strengthen cooperation between the distribution company and its industrial customers.

The company said the stakeholder meetings were part of its efforts to maintain direct communication with customers, understand their operational challenges and identify areas requiring urgent attention.

IBEDC reiterated its commitment to sustained engagement with industrial customers, prompt response to faults and the implementation of network improvement projects across its franchise.

The company also stressed that addressing electricity supply challenges required continued collaboration among distribution companies, industrial consumers and other stakeholders across the electricity value chain.

It expressed optimism that the ongoing interventions and stronger partnerships with customers would contribute to improved network reliability, enhanced industrial productivity and a more supportive environment for economic growth in Ogun State.
