The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections, charging members of its campaign committees to work collectively towards securing victory for all five party candidates.

The APC Local Government Chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde on Wednesday during the campaign organization inaugural meeting gave the charge while addressing chairmen, vice-chairmen and secretaries of various committees, stressing that the party’s electoral success would depend on the commitment, coordination and contributions of every member.

Akintunde expressed confidence in the party’s chances, saying, “I believe we are going to succeed in the coming election, and the success of the election is in the hands of everyone present here today.”

She directed all committee chairmen to submit their proposed budgets to the Director General of the campaign committee for scrutiny and consideration, adding that every department had responsibilities that required adequate funding.

According to her, the party would need effective mobilisation, security arrangements, transportation and welfare support when the ward-to-ward campaign begins across the local government.

“When we start the ward-to-ward campaign, the ward chairmen and the advance team will have a lot of work to do. We must mobilise effectively in every ward, while our security must be tight,” she said.

The APC chairman commended the appointment of a former area commander as chairman of the security committee and directed the committee to write to all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the area before the commencement of the campaign.

She also charged the mobilisation committee to ensure that food was provided for campaign participants, while calling for the provision of an ambulance and first-aid services.

The transportation committee, she said, should make arrangements for at least 10 buses, with Ori-Omi designated as the regular meeting point for campaign movements.

Akintunde further urged non-indigenes residing in the area to participate in the campaign and promote the party’s candidates wherever they go, expressing optimism that the party would emerge victorious.

The Osi Egba, High Chief Bode Mustapha, congratulated the committee members on their appointments, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the party leadership.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. We know you are all capable, and those who selected you have done a good job. In an election, there is no silver medal; it is gold or nothing,” he said.

Mustapha emphasised that the expectations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, Hon. Olumide Osoba and Prince Babatunde Tella from Abeokuta North were significant in terms of electoral votes.

He cautioned committee members against treating campaign funds as money meant for personal sharing, urging them to demonstrate leadership, promote unity and carry everyone along.

“The work and any money allocated are not for sharing. I want you all to be leaders and not bosses. Please, try to carry everybody along. Let us not rest until we have delivered the five elections,” Mustapha said.

The Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, also called for unity and sustained mobilisation, declaring that the party must not only win the 2027 elections but do so convincingly.

Oludotun noted that Abeokuta North had 16 wards and argued that the number of votes secured by the party would be crucial to its future political demands, including the possibility of an additional state constituency.

“If we want to fight for something in the future, this election matters. If our votes are plenty, it will justify us asking for another state constituency. So, we need to win massively,” he said.

He warned party members against being distracted by reports concerning the omission of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s published list, urging the campaign leadership to concentrate on communicating the APC’s achievements and selling points to the electorate.

The APC House of Assembly candidate for Abeokuta North, Prince Babatunde Tella, outlined plans for a coordinated ward-to-ward campaign and engagements with various interest groups, including traditional rulers, Muslim communities, artisans and other stakeholders.

Tella explained that the campaign itinerary had already been approved, adding that the committee would harmonise its schedule with those of other APC candidates to avoid clashes and maximise participation.

He also stressed the need for effective political communication, urging the media team to identify the concerns of individual wards and develop messages that directly addressed the needs of residents.

“The advantage we have is that we are in government, and people can see what we have done across the wards. These are the things we will use for the campaign,” he said.

Tella disclosed that campaign materials, including calendars and exercise books, were being prepared, while liquid soap was also being produced for distribution during ward visits.

He added that solar-powered streetlights had been installed in some wards, with additional projects, including boreholes and other community interventions, expected to feature in the party’s campaign engagements.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Abeokuta North Media and Publicity Campaign Committee, Dr. Lanre Biobaku, disclosed that the committee had divided its operations into subcommittees covering communication, strategy, creativity, broadcasting, print media, new media, film and multimedia, welfare, secretariat and other auxiliary functions.

Biobaku explained that the communication, strategy and creativity teams would research the needs of residents and document the party’s achievements to enable candidates to communicate effectively with voters during campaign visits.

He added that the committee had also established structures to respond to attacks on social media and monitor campaign messaging to prevent contradictory or counterproductive communication.

“We have identified 17 weeks for this work. We asked the committees to work during the first two weeks without any funding so that we could see what they could achieve. I am glad to report that the theme of our campaign is 5G because we want to score five goals, from the President to the House of Assembly,” Biobaku said.

He added that all subcommittees had been assigned responsibilities, noting that the committee would review their performance and identify areas requiring improvement as preparations progressed.

Meanwhile, The Director-General of the campaign Hon. Taofeek Olabode (Talent) urged members of the committee to work together as a united team, stressing that cooperation, commitment and effective communication are essential to achieving the campaign’s objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Talent emphasised that the success of the campaign would depend largely on the ability of the various committees and subcommittees to collaborate, share ideas and coordinate their activities towards a common goal.

He urged members to put aside individual differences and prioritise the collective interest of the campaign, noting that every department has a significant role to play in promoting the party’s candidates and strengthening the APC’s visibility across Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

The Chairman of the Finance Committee, Akeem Sumonu, also called on all committee chairmen to submit their budgets to the Director-General’s office for assessment and necessary action.

The APC Chairman Alhaja Faidat Sarumi-Akintunde subsequently fixed the deadline for submission of the proposed budgets for   Friday 23rd of October 2026, urging all committees to comply with the directive to facilitate proper planning and resource allocation.
