This clarification was made during a consultative meeting organised by the company with residents of the estate as part of efforts to strengthen customer engagement and address concerns relating to electricity supply and customer management.
Speaking at the meeting on Friday, the IBEDC Regional Communication Officer, Ayodeji Bada explained that once a distribution transformer is connected to the national grid, it automatically becomes the asset and responsibility of the Distribution Company.
Ayodeji stressed that only duly authorised and certified IBEDC personnel are permitted to handle electrical installations, including the connection and disconnection of customers from the distribution network.
He emphasized that neither the estate management nor any residents' association has the authority to connect or disconnect any customer from the electricity network, noting that such responsibilities are vested solely in IBEDC in accordance with industry regulations and safety standards.
He appealed to residents to continue supporting the company in its efforts to deliver improved services, adding that customers' cooperation and understanding are vital to achieving efficient and reliable electricity supply.
He also urged residents to maintain peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and cordial relationships within the estate, noting that harmony among community members would enhance collaboration with the Distribution Company and contribute to better service delivery.
