The former National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajjia Salamatu, on Friday, August 21, 2026, graced the Glade Crescent Foundation’s GCE Empowerment Programme, where 100 GCE forms were distributed to pupils from the Kosofe Constituency.
Speaking at the event, Hajjia Salamatu commended Hon. Akhigbe Kolade John for his commitment to supporting education and empowering young people within his constituency.
She described Hon. Akhigbe as her adopted son and a mentee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while encouraging him to sustain his support for education and youth development.
She explained that initiatives such as the procurement and distribution of GCE forms align with the broader vision of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to create opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire education and build a better future.
Hajjia Salamatu urged the beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously, dream big and work hard.
She reminded them that receiving the GCE forms free of charge was a valuable opportunity and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies with the aim of gaining admission into higher institutions of their choice.
Also speaking, Mrs. Funke Odunaike, who served as the counsellor at the event, urged the beneficiaries not to see the opportunity merely as an investment, stressing that an investment should yield results.
She encouraged the pupils to dream beyond their present circumstances and visualize their future success.
She asked them to close their eyes and imagine the journey from obtaining their GCE results, writing JAMB, gaining admission, matriculating, graduating and eventually securing meaningful employment.
Mrs. Odunaike further advised the students to identify and develop their academic strengths by paying attention to the subjects they perform well in.
She urged both parents and pupils to guard against excessive social media distractions, encouraging the beneficiaries to focus on becoming the news rather than spending their time merely following events on social media.
She also called on the beneficiaries to study diligently, prepare adequately for their examinations and be mindful of the company they keep, noting that negative associations could adversely affect their academic progress and future ambitions.
The programme reaffirmed the commitment of the Glade Crescent Foundation and Hon. Akhigbe Kolade John to supporting education and creating opportunities for young people to achieve their academic aspirations.
